Sting Had His Heart Set On Facing The Undertaker At 'WrestleMania 32'

The WWE Universe is fully entrenched in the embroiling Shane McMahon vs. Undertaker feud leading up to their Hell in a Cell match at WrestleMania coming in just over a week at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on April 3.

However, one superstar just can't seem to look past what might have been had he not sustained a significant neck injury ... and that would be none other than the "Icon," Sting.

The longtime pro-wrestling force, who will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on April 2, recently shared that sorrow in an exclusive interview with WWE.com.

When asked if he would have been performing at WrestleMania 32 as a grand finale had he not been injured, Sting said: "Yes. If I had my way, yes, of course. I would have loved to have done one more WrestleMania and I would have called it quits at that point. The Undertaker match — that's what I wanted to do."

He added: "Yes, it was in my mind, of course, but everyone knew that I definitely wanted to have that one match. And, of course, WrestleMania would have been the place to do it. But, I got hurt and the rest is history."

As good as the Undertaker vs. Shane-O-Mac Hell in a Cell match is expected to be, a Sting vs. Taker WrestleMania match would seemingly have been as special, as it would pit two pillars of two companies — with Sting being a force for World Championship Wrestling for years before joining WWE — up against each other on the "Grandest Stage of Them All."

During the interview, Sting also revealed that he hasn't had surgery to treat his spinal stenosis, adding details on the dizzying amount of conflicting advice and feedback he has gotten since taking a buckle bomb from Seth Rollins and being injured at last year's WWE Night of Champions pay-per-view in September.

"I'm agreeing there probably is spinal stenosis or cervical spinal stenosis. I have had certain doctors tell me, 'You know, so many athletes of all ages, they've got this. They deal with it to some degree or another,'" Sting said. "I had one doctor here tell me, 'You're fine, you're okay — you don't have anything to worry about.' And then wrestlers say, 'I'd see this doctor.' 'No, I'd see this one over there.' I'm telling you, it's just craziness. So I'm thinking, as long as I'm feeling good, why am I going to do anything? And the one thing everyone has said is don't go under the knife unless you absolutely have to."
