Apple is going to have some competition in the smart watch sector as both LG and Samsung are getting some traction as they reveal their new smart technology ahead of the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin in September.
Samsung and its in-house Tizen platform and LG's Android Wear devices are expected to ramp up competition with Apple, whose new smart watch is expected to hit the market in the near future.
While LG already released its first G Watch in July, its latest effort in the smart watch sector is expected to go on sale in October, the G Watch R. LG will be the first of the big three to release their new wearable devices and LG's features a (round for R) 1.3-inch OLED plastic screen that reportedly can be used inside and outside.
The device is already earning some positive reviews.
"Despite the more refined look, it still garners an IP67 rating for protection against water and dust: The device can stand in a meter of water for up to 30 minutes with no fear of it going kaput," says one analyst.
For Samsung, its Gear S smart watch allows users to make and receive phone calls. According to specifications, it has 3G global capabilities and can text message others without the need for a smartphone to be linked. Add to that voice command recognition and Samsung is expecting a great response to the design.
But there is concern for both companies that Apple will be the first to the market as rumors abound that the company could launch its new smart watch on Sept. 9 when it also announces the next-generation iPhone.
The iPhone 6 is believed to be slated to his shelves on Sept. 19 and many observers and analysts also expect Apple to launch its iWatch -- although the name could change -- on the same date in order to maximize its PR strategy.
According to Nikkei, "industry sources" are saying the iWatch will launch in October and will feature a curved OLED touchscreen display, Tech Times reports.
Apple, according to reports, believes the iWatch will be a huge success and apparently is looking to manufacture between three and five million units monthly until the launch, with sales expectations already high on the device even before it has been officially launched.
Either way the devices fall, users are expected to soon get their first glimpse into real competition in the smart watch sector.
