Samsung wants you to spend on 4K UHD TV, partners with Amazon, other content providers

Amazon and Netflix 4K streaming will soon be fully enjoyed as Samsung recently announced that original 4K content will be available starting October.

Samsung is expanding its UHD Ecosystem in partnership with different content partners like Amazon, Netflix, Wuaki.tv, CHILI, and maxdome. The announcement was made ahead of the IFA with the global release taking place in October.

"The era of UHD has begun, and to continue even more widespread adoption, it is important to provide consumers with more choices when it comes to UHD content," Samsung Electronics' Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business Won Jin Lee said. "We are providing our customers with a wider array of UHD content to enjoy on our ultra-immersive Curved UHD TVs."

It seems that Samsung is serious with bringing more UHD content to the European market. Previously, UHD content are limited to special broadcasts only but the company promises to bring more in the coming months.

Samsung also wants a more secure distribution so it partnered with the Secure Content Storage Association (SCSA). The group includes major media outfits Western Digital, Warner Bros., SanDisk, and 20th Century Fox. The SCSA and Samsung have partnered to finally create content storage security standards when it comes to UHD content via a simple download service.

Note that a few months back, the South Korean giant teamed up with RTP, national broadcasting company in Portugal, and Portugal Telecom, to live stream some of the World Cup matches in UHD picture shown on the Samsung Curved UHD TV. That was the first UHD live-streaming event in the world.

Live UHD broadcasting is already available to the public in South Korea but the rest of the world is still not familiar with it. Samsung Electronics is determined to make UHD a standard.

UHD is also known as 4K TV. Its resolution display is impressive at 3,840 X 2,160 which is four times the Full HD resolution. Most UHD TVs are still expensive and with only limited content available to watch. But with this new development and Samsung's goal to make 4K video streaming a new standard, people will have more reasons to shell out money on an expensive UHD TV system.
