Apple iWatch may launch alongside iPhone 6 on Sept. 9: Priced at $400?

There's been a steady stream of leaks for Apple's upcoming products. As a big press event for the company nears, the rumors continue to surface, and this time it's for the company's upcoming "iWatch."

The wrist-worn device, which was expected to be unveiled at an Apple event scheduled for October, may now be launched a month earlier.

Per Re/code, the new smartwatch will be announced alongside Apple's two new iPhone 6 models during an expected press event on Sept. 9.

"The new device will, predictably, make good use of Apple's HealthKit health and fitness platform. It will also - predictably - make good use of HomeKit, the company's new framework for controlling connected devices - though it's not clear how broadly or in what way," the report read.

In another report, Re/code goes on to state that the iWatch may be priced at $400.

Reports of a new Apple wearable device first surfaced last July, when the company was granted a patent for a smartwatch. In a filing from the US Patent and Trademark Office, it was revealed that Apple was awarded a patent for "a wrist-worn electronic device and methods thereof."

According to the patent, the iWatch will come with Bluetooth transceivers, a touchscreen, an accelerometer and a GPS receiver. The device, which was named as "iTime" in one of the illustrations, appears to have a removable module, which would make it usable even without the accompanying wristband.

"The invention pertains to an electronic wristwatch. According to one embodiment, an electronic wristband can provide additional electrical circuitry or devices that can be made available for use as or with an electronic device. In one embodiment, the electronic device can be a mobile electronic device that can be removably coupled to the electronic wristband which provides the additional circuitry or devices," the filing read.

This means that the iWatch can be connected with other Apple devices such as iPhones and iPads. According to the filing, the wristband is meant to hold a tiny removable module, which could possibly be an iPod Nano.

It is still not clear if Apple's October event would still push through. Aside from the iWatch, the company was rumored to also reveal its new operating OS X Yosemite and its upcoming line of Macs and iPads.
