Casio's Smart Outdoor Watch WSD-F10 is finally ready to make its commercial debut soon, launching nationwide on March 25.
This rugged Android Wear smartwatch was one of the coolest gadgets to debut at the CES 2016 trade show back in January, stirring lots of interest thanks to its different approach.
While other smartwatches may focus on style, or on fitness features, or downright fashion statements, Casio's Smart Outdoor Watch, as the name itself suggests, aims to cater to outdoorsy adventurous people with an active lifestyle.
The WSD-F10 comes with a slew of neat functionality to help users make the most of their outdoors adventures, and it also comes with a rugged construction to ensure the gadget withstands the elements.
The design makes the Smart Outdoor Watch impossible to mistake for any other Android Wear smartwatch, while a closer look at specs makes the device even more intriguing. The gadget primarily targets cyclists, hikers and fishermen, and it comes packed with specs and features to help them make the most of their activities.
Dedicated applications make use of a pressure sensor, compass and accelerometer to measure and show relevant information that would be useful for various outdoor activities and sports.
In terms of ruggedness, the smartwatch boasts MIL-STD-810 military-grade certification to ensure it withstands humidity, radiation, vibration, shock, water, ice, or extremely high/ low temperatures. Such ruggedness is unprecedented for the Android Wear pool of devices, but rather commonplace for Casio.
All that extra oomph comes at a price, however, and the Casio Smart Outdoor Watch costs arguably more than most Android Wear smartwatches. The rugged smartwatch will retail for a hefty $500.
Upon announcing the device at CES, Casio said its Smart Outdoor Watch would hit retail in the United States in April. It now seems that it's ready to launch sooner than expected, as the watchmaker just announced a March 25 release date.
The Casio Smart Outdoor Watch will be available in black, red, orange and green color options and will go on sale on Amazon, the Google Store, ShopCasio and REI.
