Here's How To Enable The Hidden Condensed Display Mode Of Your Samsung Galaxy S7

The Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge have just hit the shelves a few days ago, and plenty of people have already gotten their hands on it. That means it was only a matter of time before the handset's secrets would turn up, and that time is now.

XDA member Daniel Marchena discovered the hidden DPI scaling option called the Condensed display mode, allowing more goodies to be in plain view on the screen.

How To Turn On The Condensed Display Mode On The Samsung Galaxy S7 And Galaxy S7 Edge

Step 1: Head on over to the Google Play Store and download Nova Launcher

Step 2: Launch Nova Launcher. There's no need to set it as a default.

Step 3: Do a long-press on the home screen and tap on Widgets.

Step 4: Look for the Activities widget and bring it to the home screen.

Step 5: Look for Settings and tap on .DisplayScalingActivity. This will create a shortcut on the home screen.

Step 6: Tap on the newly created shortcut. There you have it, the option to go either Standard or Condensed.

Note: As suggested earlier, you don't have to stick with the Nova Launcher. You can go back to using your preferred launcher or the default that Samsung loaded the handsets with.

To get a better picture of what this does, here's a screenshot from Marchena:

It's also worth mentioning that Google is fully aware that power users have been looking for a way to adjust the DPI scaling on their devices without having to root them, which is a process that gets a little tricky sometimes. That's why the company handed over that privilege to the people when it released the first Android N Developer Preview along with the anticipated split-screen feature.

On an interesting note, there's more or less a chance that Samsung intends to officially roll out the Condensed display mode in the future, but for now, this nifty workaround is more than enough.
