Twitter Decides To Send TweetDeck For Windows To The Software Graveyard

In an official blog post, Twitter announced that support for the standalone TweetDeck app for Windows will end on April 15 in a move to enhance the TweetDeck experience of users.

TweetDeck allows users to create dashboards where they can manage several Twitter accounts at the same time. While the standalone Windows app will no longer be supported, TweetDeck can still be accessed through its Web version.

On the company's post, Twitter said when users log in to the Twitter or Twitter Analytics websites, logging in to TweetDeck separately will no longer be required. Moving between the websites and TweetDeck will have users automatically logged in among them, making it easier for them to switch between the Twitter tools.

Such developments in infrastructure are among the improvements Twitter is making to TweetDeck, as the social network looks to create a stable foundation for the tool. Last year, Twitter noted that it launched TweetDeck features including Teams, group Direct Messages and a confirmation step before sending out a tweet. New search filters were also added to simplify looking for specific and older content.

With all these updates, and presumably all the future ones coming to TweetDeck, Twitter decided to drop the standalone Windows app to focus all its resources on the further development of TweetDeck's Web version.

Twitter acquired TweetDeck in 2011, with the social network recently dialing back on supporting the tool's app. The company pulled the plug for the iOS and Android versions of TweetDeck, including the Adobe AIR desktop version, back in 2013.

The Mac and Chrome versions of TweetDeck, however, are still currently available, though there is no indication how long these versions of the app will stay supported.

Twitter has been busy with its apps lately. In fact, the social network released just yesterday an update for its universal Windows 10 app, which includes a total revamp for the Windows 10 Mobile version.

In addition to the Twitter app for Windows 10 Mobile, the company said it will be adding the dark theme for all Windows 10-powered devices.
