The 16th annual Game Developers Choice Awards ceremony started during the 2016 Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco. Her Story and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt were the most honored games at the event.
Her Story, an interactive movie video game written and directed by Sam Barlow, was released for iOS, OS X and Microsoft Windows in June 2015. The game has received three awards.
Third-person fantasy open-world action role-playing video game — The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — developed by CD Projekt RED, also received a couple of awards. The game was announced in February 2013 and was released for Microsoft Xbox One, Sony PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows in May 2015. The video game is the third in the series.
"The world of video games can include every imaginable and unimaginable experience, from the vast world of The Witcher 3, to the intimate interrogations in Her Story, and the Choice Awards have evolved to honor this diversity of titles," says Meggan Scavio, General Manager of the Game Developers Conference.
Both Her Story and The Witcher 3 have been welcomed well in the gaming industry. The two video games have also been nominated under a number of categories for the upcoming third annual South by Southwest (SXSW) Gaming Awards.
For the SXSW Gaming Awards, The Witcher 3 has been nominated under the Game of the Year, Excellence in Gameplay, Excellence in Art and more. While Her Story can get awards under Mobile Game of the Year, Excellence in Narrative and more categories.
It remains to be seen how many awards these games can collect at the SXSW Gaming Awards. For now, the game developers of the winners will be cherishing the awards received at the GDC.
