If you're craving for some morning comfort food, head over to your favorite chicken fast food chain to start the day in the unhealthiest way. Select locations of Chick-fil-A are offering new breakfast items that features Chicken & Waffles and other really unhealthy food options.
Known for their fried chicken cutlet sandwiches, the popular Atlanta-based fast food chain is bringing both mouth-wateringly unhealthy and "better for you" items to breakfast. The new breakfast menu will feature the popular Southern food pair, chicken and waffles.
For a whopping 440 calories and 9 grams of fat—but only $4.29—consumers can indulge in the Chicken & Waffles meal that comes with the signature hand-breaded fried chicken cutlet severed alongside a Belgian waffle that has caramelized sugar crunch and maple syrup baked inside so that "no additional syrup [is] required." Customers also have a choice of honey or Buffalo Sauce.
Chick-fil-A describes it as "the perfect sweet and savory start to the day."
The breakfast menu includes six new items in total. Other more fattening food choice include the Mapply Waffle (sans chicken) warm Cinnamon Swirls. While the cinnamon rolls are mini, they include the traditional cream cheese icing which are 310 calories and 17 grams of fat. At least the price is light on your wallet at $1.50.
The new breakfast menu items aren't all unhealthy. Health-conscious consumers can order an Egg White Chicken Grill that includes grilled instead of fried chicken, egg whites and American cheese on a multigrain English muffin for 300 calories and 6 grams of fat.
Other healthier choices include Multigrain Oatmeal that has whole wheat and buckwheat and flax oatmeal, strawberries, blueberries and cinnamon brown sugar that comes on the side. This option will cost you 140 calories and a slim 3 grams of fat.
The lightest option on the menu is the Greek Yogurt Parfait with a skinny 110 calories and only 2.5 grams of fat. The parfait includes honey vanilla Greek yogurt, fresh strawberries and blueberries, and either Harvest Nut Granola or chocolate cookie crumbs.
These healthier choices are joining the trial breakfast menu that Chick-fil-A rolled out a last fall. The new breakfast healthier items are under $4, but prices on all items vary with locations.
"As our customer base continues to grow, so does the variety of our customers' appetites and dietary preferences," says Brian Wray, manager of menu development for Chick-fil-A Inc. in a press release. "Our customers have been asking for products that are health-conscious, easily portable, as well as offerings that suit regional appetites."
Chick-fil-A's Chicken & Waffles will compete with Taco Bell's Waffle Taco that is part of the chain's new breakfast menu that launched in March.
The new unhealthy options including the Chicken & Waffles and lighter breakfast items will be available in four U.S, regions: Philadelphia, Middle Georgia and Memphis, Tenn., as well as the Inland Empire, Calif. for a limited time.
