Legendary British actor and filmmaker Richard Attenborough died at age 90 on Sunday. Though he may be gone, fans will always have his works to watch and remember him by, and he will even be making one more film appearance next year. Attenborough will be immortalized in bronze in "Jurassic World" thanks to director Colin Trevorrow.
Trevorrow tweeted out a picture of Attenborough's "Jurassic Park" character John Hammond in statue form, captioning the photo with the words "In memoriam."
Attenborough's Hammond character served as the idealistic founder of Jurassic Park in the original 1994 "Jurassic Park" film, and was Attenborough's first acting role since 1979. He also makes a brief appearance in the sequel, "The Lost World: Jurassic Park." His legacy, thanks to Trevorrow, lives on in "Jurassic World," which will finally see Hammond's dream of a dinosaur theme park become fully operational. At least until all the dinosaurs inevitably escape and everything falls into chaos.
"Jurassic Park" served as just one of the capstones of a long and prosperous acting and directing career for Attenborough. He starred in iconic films like the WWII drama "The Great Escape," "Bright Rock" and the Christmas classic "Miracle on 34th Street." He also won an Academy Award for directing the 1982 biopic "Gandhi," as well as four BAFTA awards and four Golden Globes.
Fans got their first look at what "Jurassic World" may have in store during San Diego Comic-Con in July when the first poster for the film was revealed. The film will take place 22 years after the events of the first "Jurassic Park" and, judging from the first poster, is looking to throw back to the original film in more ways than one.
Unlike sequels "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" and "Jurassic Park III," this latest film in the franchise will actually take place in a park rather than just a dinosaur-filled island, complete with rides, feeding demonstrations and underwater creatures. The poster features an iconic raptor seen in the first film standing atop the classic Jurassic Park tour car as the Jurassic World theme park is being constructed in the background.
A promotional brochure supposedly from the film shows a number of the dinosaur attractions that will be featured at the park like the herbivore petting area, and of course, the ability to watch a T-Rex feed.
"Jurassic World" is set for release on June 12, 2015 and stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard.
