Claire Underwood has her plate full coming into season 4 of "House of Cards" but it's no different for the woman behind the role, Robin Wright, who was tasked with directing four episodes out of the 13 for the season.
While this isn't her first shot at directing for the Netflix series (she was also at the helm for three of season 3's episodes), this will be the first time that Wright will be juggling being a star, director and executive producer for "House of Cards."
"Now that I've done it and been bitten by the director bug, it opens up a new vessel of perfection, what the scene is about," she said in an interview.
Asked what the toughest scene to shoot this season was for her, Wright said that it was always tough because she always wanted to be on the other side of the camera but singled out the dream sequence because of the fight scene, fake blood and pads and all. She also recounted how much strategic work had to be done when filming crowd scenes.
At the very least, it was easy for her to direct herself because she's always followed that dynamic as an actress. According to Wright, she was not afraid to call cut whenever she felt that her acting was not good enough for what a scene called for.
Being a star, director and executive producer all at the same time is a tough act but finding herself behind the camera has given Wright a better understanding of how a production comes together.
"You have to learn how to be a team player in a different way and a different communicator. A teacher, a listener, and a receiver."
"House of Cards" season 4 premiered March 4. Other directors for the season include Tucker Gates, Tom Shankland, Alex Graves, Kari Skogland and Jakob Verbruggen.
Netflix renewed the series for a fifth season.
