BMW M4 GTS Wows Autophiles At Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance

Late last year, the BMW M4 GTS conquered the Nurburgring, one of the world's premiere race tracks, by clocking in a lap of 7 minutes and 28 seconds.

BMW also released on-board video footage for the speedy run, which allowed the vehicle to grab the 26th spot in the Top 100 list for Nurburgring.

BMW has now taken the powerful vehicle to the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance to show it off, and even while staying still, the BMW M4 GTS was turning heads.

The BMW M4 GTS is not merely an upgraded BMW M4 with a bigger engine, as the vehicle saw a lot of reworking to reduce its curb weight, boost its power and improve its efficiency.

The BMW M4 GTS packs a 3.0-liter M TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder in-line engine capable of pushing out 493 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. The top speed for the vehicle is said to be 189.5 miles per hour, with the zero to 60 miles per hour time clocked at 3.7 seconds.

One thing that's catching attention for the vehicle is its water injection system, which is seen for the first time in an intercooled production car with the BMW M4 GTS.

The vehicle showed off an aggressive body kit which has components made up of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic and aluminum. The materials allowed the vehicle to slash 256 pounds of curb weight compared to the BMW M4, dropping to 3,329 pounds.

Other changes made to the BMW M4 GTS to reduce its weight include the replacements of the interior door trim and hard handle with a lightweight panel and a fabric pull. In addition, the rear bench seat was replaced with a plastic panel and a steel roll cage.

The front seats of the vehicle are M Sports specials that have backrest cut-outs to reduce mass, with a fire extinguisher included in case of accidents.

The trademark acid orange color of the vehicle is most striking in the BMW M4 GTS's wheels, which are created from forged aluminum. The 19-inch wheels on the front have 6-piston fixed calipers for braking, while the 20-inch wheels in the rear have 4-piston fixed calipers.

The BMW M4 GTS does not skimp on technology though, as it features an 8.8-inch display in the center stack which can be controlled with the iDrive knob, along with adaptive cruise control, a heads-up display and parking distance control.

BMW is only making 700 units of the vehicle which will come with a base price tag of $134,200. All units, however, have already been sold.
