The IFA in Berlin is right around the corner but it looks like LG can't wait. The G3 Stylus was announced Tuesday ahead of the trade show, a G3-lookalike with, well, a stylus.
Given its name, it's easy to mistake the G3 Stylus as simply a stylus for LG's current flagship. It is not. Neither is it a G3 with a stylus. Instead, the G3 Stylus is a toned-down version of the G3 sporting a stylus that neatly tucks away in a silo. It packs in less of a punch compared to the flagship model but it does have its own merits.
Like the G3, the G3 Stylus features a 5.5-inch display. The same Floating Arc design is still employed but from QHD the display has been downgraded to qHD, with the resolution dipping from 2560 x 1440 to 960 x 540 or from 534 ppi to 200 ppi.
The G3 Stylus is also fitted with a 1.3GHz quad-core processor whereas the G3 featured a more powerful processor rated at 2.5GHz. From the 2GB/3GB included in the G3, the G3 Stylus makes do with 1GB RAM, as well as 8GB of internal storage from 16GB/32GB.
The G3 Stylus retains the 13MP rear camera from the G3 but takes a cut with the front camera, getting 1.3MP like the G3 Beat compared to the 2.1MP in the G3. It will also feature the same 3,000mAh battery used by the G3 which means enough juice for jotting and doodling and sketching with the included stylus.
Made with LG's proprietary Rubberdium design, the G3 Stylus' stylus complements many of the features of the smartphone, like QuickMemo+. Pre-loaded apps and programs in the G3 Stylus were selected to ensure seamless switching between work and play for users.
"With its exceptional hardware and exceptional price that can't be beat, the LG G3 Stylus is in a category all by itself. The LG G3 Stylus is the perfect tool for consumers who don't want to be bogged down carrying a laptop, tablet and smartphone. It gets things done and lets you have fun while doing without having to compromise on quality, style or user experience," said Dr. Jong-seok Park, LG Electronics CEO and president.
Brazil will get first dibs at the G3 Stylus in September; Asian, African, Middle Eastern and CIS markets to follow. The smartphone, however, will be available for everyone to see at the LG booth at the IFA.
