He may not be the most popular Avenger of the group, but Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye has his devoted followers. In fact, according to a new report, Hawkeye may be making an appearance in 2016's "Captain America 3."
Cap is on a big roll right now, and DC titans Batman & Superman just blinked last month in a release date staring contest, making Marvel again the big winner. "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" is even the highest grossing movie of the year thus far, although "Guardians of the Galaxy" is hot on its tail.
So adding Hawkeye into the mix for the third installment of the franchise may mean even more green for the film. Again at the directing helm for "Cap 3" are brothers Joe and Anthony Russo. The Russo brothers recently spoke to SuperheroHype.com, but they were mum on any real details about who is going to appear in the sequel.
"There are certainly characters that Cap is close to or has a strong relationship with that would make sense appearing in his films. I think that's all we can say about it," Joe Russo said.
Fans may remember that Hawkeye made his first appearance in a brief scene in 2011's "Thor" ready to put an arrow through everyone's favorite Asgardian. After that, Hawkeye was under Loki's mind control a good portion of 2012's "The Avengers." So it is fair to say that Hawkeye is ready to make his big splash in "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" and now possibly in "Captain America 3."
"Unfortunately, we can't (comment)," Anthony Russo, said. "It's too specific to what the movie may be."
"There are rumblings of Captain America 3. I don't know what's going to happen there. I've got to find the time, man (laughs). I'm trying to stay home and I can't," added Renner himself in an interview with Collider.
Clint Barton is already sporting new duds for "Avengers: AOU" with a look more similar to the classic Hawkeye in the comics. There has been no more official word from Renner's camp commenting on whether or not he will be in the sequel, but right now it sounds like it is too early to tell. Still, after Falcon was in "Cap 2" this spring, clearly it does not hurt to have some superhero assistance around.
