New 'Gone Girl' trailer strikes a chilling nerve

Before Ben Affleck straps on his Batman utility belt and starts the Batmobile, he will star in the fall thriller "Gone Girl" from acclaimed director David Fincher.

The film, from the Gillian Flynn novel, focuses on the disappearance of a young woman and the police investigation that begins to point at her husband as the prime suspect. The latest trailer for the film may be short, but it packs a real punch. The "did he" or "didn't he" storyline does not get old, and with Fincher at the helm, the Oscar-nominated director knows how to bring the thrills.

While Nick (Affleck) and Amy (Rosmund Pike) may look like the perfect couple, their marriage really isn't what it seems. Set to the chilling voiceover of Amy, we hear more of the missing wife saying, "Man of my dreams, this man of mine may truly ... kill me."

That's ice cold.

Co-starring in the film is scene-stealer Neil Patrick Harris playing Amy's ex-boyfriend. We also get to see some seriously creepy dolls in the trailer, but who knows what that's about. Still, this flick looks to be the hit of the fall movie season.

"Gone Girl" hits theaters October 3.
