Church might thwart Cersei Lannister's ‘Game Of Thrones’ nude scene

"Game of Thrones" fans may be deprived of an anticipated Cersei Lannister nude scene if the church has anything to say about it.

Anyone familiar with the popular HBO series knows that adult situations, sexuality and nudity are regular elements on the show. It seems that practically every character has disrobed at some point during the show’s four seasons. And fans of Lena Headey’s character, the villainous mother Cersei Lannister (Baratheon), have been anticipating the upcoming fifth season, in which Headey is reportedly stripping down. But a local church could prevent that from happening.

"Game Of Thrones" is currently shooting season five in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Producers have secured all necessary filming permits, except one that pertains to a scene in which Headey is supposed to walk out of a church naked. The Church of St. Nicholas apparently has a problem with public nudity because it reportedly pressured the local film commission to deny producers a permit for this specific scene.

However, this scene is crucial to the storyline, so cutting it isn’t an option. CinemaBlend explains why (SPOILER ALERT!):

“The scene in question is the big moment when Cersei finally gets her cummupance. She is forced to take a Penance Walk, completely naked, across King’s Landing. It’s one everyone involved has been planning for, and it’s one fans of the books have been especially pumped about. In fact, one of the reasons why Cersei has remained so clothed over the years is because actress Lena Headey wanted the Penance Walk to be that much more shocking.”

The show’s producers are working on a solution.
