T-Mobile ups the ante as price war ignites for the wireless user

T-Mobile has announced a counterattack to Sprint's price cuts last week, offering quadruple the amount of data on its Simple Starter plan.

The Uncarrier will now offer 2 GB of data on the plan, compared with the 500 MB that was previously offered. This will bring the price of the plan from $40 to $45.

This change in the plan comes only a few months after the Simple Starter plan was originally announced in April.

On the Simple Starter plan, after the 2 GB of data is used, users will no longer be able to use their device for data-related services. Comparably, on the Simple Choice plan that starts at $50, users will have unlimited data, which is throttled in speeds after the data is used. For $50, the amount of data that can be used at full LTE speed is 1 GB.

Users of the current Simple Starter Plan will not be forced to move to the new one; however, they will have the option of upgrading if they want to.

The news of this plan comes at the same time as T-Mobile announcing it would offer a year of free, unlimited LTE data for users who bring their friends over to the company from other carriers. The friend will also get the year of data.

With the price war between carriers just starting to heat up, it is exciting to think about what might be around the corner. T-Mobile has been the most aggressive carrier for a while now, with Sprint finally challenging the company, now offering unlimited talk, text and LTE data for $60, which is $20 cheaper than T-Mobile's offering with the same services.

Only three weeks ago, Sprint was set to buy T-Mobile. Since then, the acquisition has been dropped and the companies have become enemies. This is great for the public, as it means that a healthy amount of competition will help drop prices.

While Verizon, Sprint and AT&T have all offered lower rates and better plans as a result of T-Mobile's aggressive changes, it seems that the Uncarrier still isn't satisfied, and is continuing to make changes to the mobile industry.

T-Mobile's efforts are sure to help the company in its battle against Sprint for third place, after Verizon and AT&T.

The new Simple Starter plan will be offered to both new and existing customers starting on Sept. 3, and will be offered for a limited time.
