LG Nexus 5X owners are getting an update that Google promises will fix an important number of issues concerning connectivity, stability and performance.
The announcement comes via Reddit, where a Google community manager tells that the upcoming update will focus on fixing problems that cause "slow [and] sluggish performance." He goes on to say that both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi problems will get resolved by updating the LG Nexus 5X.
Google's presentation of the OTA update appears rather vague, but the Reddit thread is filled with users who complain about the faulty camera on the Nexus 5X. Should the OEM choose to secure a fix for the legendary buggy camera in the latest update, it could gain a few fans.
The company says the update follows the feedback of its fans.
"[The update] will improve overall stability, connectivity, and performance on the Nexus 5X," the Google employee mentions on Reddit.
He points out that the OTA update will bring March's security update for the Nexus 5X.
Among the complaints, a consistent number indicate that the camera is "slow to open" and more often than not when it does open it locks the phone altogether.
Redditor iFlameLife reports that the issues with the camera disappeared completely after the update.
"Lag seems to be completely gone, shutter feels snappier and I can multitask (while using camera)," iFlameLife writes.
In retort, Redditor qda suggests some caution.
"Ok, please report back if it slows down again, because our issues happen several hours after a reboot," he notes.
We look forward to seeing what the update might bring. In the fortunate case where it actually fixes the camera, the update could make Nexus 5X one of the most competitive Android handsets due to the phone's pretty strong specs and decent price tag.
The Nexus 5X sells for only $349, making it a robust midrange smartphone that competes hard against its rivals – the best smartphones priced at $450 and below.
The handset packs a 5.2-inch full HD display that uses an Adreno 418 GPU. For processing power, the device taps into a six-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 CPU that is aided by 2 GB of RAM. The chastised camera combo contains a 5-megapixel front-facing camera and a 12.3-megapixel main snapper. The Nexus 5X draws power from a 2,700 mAh battery and comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow preinstalled.
According to Google, the update is landing on devices as we speak.
