LG has announced that it will release the LG G5 on April 8 in Canada. This date could also possibly serve as the release date for the modular smartphone in the U.S.
During the Mobile World Congress last February, Samsung and LG both launched their 2016 next-gen flagship smartphones. Samsung announced that the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge would be released worldwide on March 11 and all four major U.S. carriers opened up preorders for the handsets. T-Mobile, Sprint, and AT&T customers who preordered early have already reported receiving their S7 or S7 Edge early.
When LG took the wraps off of the LG G5 at MWC 2016, it never gave an exact release date; only saying the smartphone would be available in April. Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint have all announced they will offer the LG G5.
It looks like LG has finalized a release date and it could provide a clue as to when U.S. customers will be able to purchase the handset. LG has announced that the LG G5, which is considered a "game-changer will be released on April 8 in Canada.
"The fact that Canadians will also be able to purchase LG Friends, or companion devices, means they will be able to expand the capabilities of their G5 to capture more content," said Valerie Malone, director of marketing at LG Electronics Canada.
Major carriers in Canada such as Eastlink, Bell, Wind Mobile, MTS, SaskTel, Telus, and Videotron will offer the new LG flagship.
In fact, carriers such as Rogers and Fido will even include a special promotion with the release of LG G5. Customers who preorder the smartphone will receive a free CAM Plus accessory, which attaches to the G5 to add analog camera controls and extra battery (CA$99 or $74 value).
LG has yet to comment on an exact release date for the LG G5 in the U.S., but early reports claimed the smartphone would be released during the first week of April.
As always, we'll keep you posted on any new LG G5 news as it happens.
