Sony creates selfie camera that looks like a perfume bottle: Future success or future failure?

Sony is getting involved in the selfie craze with a new type of camera that is designed to look like a perfume bottle. This could turn out to be a real fire success for Sony, or one of the worst failures in the history of technology.

This device is called the Cyber-shot DSC-KW11, and we'd like to think Sony designed it specifically for teenagers or adults who are still living in a teenage world. For example, Kim Kardashian would likely find the Cyber-shot DSC-KW11 quite amusing and perfect for her tastes.

Despite having the shape of a perfume bottle, this camera is not just capable of taking images. Sony has added a few features to alter images, something we suspect little teenage girls would truly enjoy. The image altering features include, "face slimming" and eye widening". For those who might believe their face to have too much weight to achieve that perfect shot, face slimming could work wonders.

Let's get down to the specifications, because this is where the surprise comes from.

The sensor on this bad boy is a whopping 19.2 megapixels, and Sony claims this sensor has the ability to capture the finer details in life. Whether or not this is true is still up for debate, but one thing is for certain, this perfume bottle-looking camera is slick.

In addition to the 19.2 megapixels, the lens measure 21-mm, and it can be swiveled around in a 180 degrees motion. Users should expect minimal noise from this F2 maximum aperture lens.

Sony mentioned that the sensor is quality in low-light conditions, something that has become increasingly important in recent years. Furthermore, the camera is sporting a 3.3-inch display, which users can swipe to activate the timer mode.

We have to say, the Cyber-shot DSC-KW11 is an interesting product, though we can't be certain just yet how successful it could become. Success of this device would likely come down to the price, but at over $800, it is clear that only a few teenager might have the ability to purchase the device.

Purchasing a selfie camera for $800 shouldn't be a problem for Kim Kardashian though.

For now, Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-KW11 is only available in the Asia-Pacific. If it becomes a success, no doubt folks in the West will get the chance to take it for a spin.
