The movie "Theory of Everything," a biopic of Stephen Hawking's life and career, just released a new poster, and it looks like it's going to be a great movie.
In the new poster, Hawking is pictured with his first wife, Jane Hawking, looking joyous as they hold hands and spin on an English lawn. Hawking is played by Eddie Redmayne, who played Marius in the 2012 film adaptation of Les Miserables, and Hawking's wife is played by Felicity Jones. The film follows the story of their romance, which began just before Hawking was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. ALS is the degenerative nerve disease which ultimately confined Hawking to a wheelchair and robbed him of most of his ability to move.
The film is directed by James Marsh, a filmmaker who made the touching 2005 documentary Man on Wire. The film promises to reveal more about the man who was behind the science and give viewers a more personal touch about who Hawking was.
One trailer for the film has already been released. It shows the couple as Stephen Hawking becomes sicker and weaker, and how Jane takes care of him. He was initially given a life expectancy of two years, but Jane never thought of leaving him. In the trailer her character says, "I love him, and he loves me. We're going to fight this illness together." The trailer shows Hawking's life through to the moment he loses his trachea and must speak with a computer-programmed voice.
Today, Stephen Hawking is considered one of the smartest men alive. His work has revolutionized modern physics, especially his work explaining black holes and the nature of time and space, in his book "A Brief History of Time." Hawking is now 72 years old.
The movie "Theory of Everything" is based on a memoir by Jane Hawking, called "Traveling to Infinity: My Life With Stephen". They wed in 1965 and had three children together. The couple divorced in 1995 after thirty years of marriage after Stephen left his wife for one of his nurses. Jane's memoir was published in 2007. She details the strain of providing round-the-clock care for her husband and balancing other daily matters as his academic career took off.
The biopic is slated to be released on November 7. It will air at the Toronto International Film Festival. You can watch the trailer online here.
