A date has yet to be set, but there are new details about Star Wars Battlefront's Outer Rim DLC, the first of four paid expansions, that's set to arrive sometime this month.
The Outer Rim DLC will add gunslinger Greedo and marksman Nien Nunb to the game. The DLC will also add to the game's arsenal and card collection.
It'll deliver the Relby V-10 rifle and DT-12 blaster pistol. The Adrenaline Stim Star, Scatter Gun, and Dioxis Grenade will all be available via Star Cards. As for new maps, there will be at least three of them.
"Blast enemies in the smelting factory or along the industrial pipes and platforms of Sullust or fight through Jabba's throne room and sail barge garage on Tatooine," says EA.
Typically, it's not like game developer Dice if it releases a map pack without a new game mode. That's why the Outer Rim DLC will also bring a fresh set of objectives and a new scenario. The new game mode is called Extraction.
"Rebel forces have entered some of the most dangerous places in the Outer Rim in order to extract a valuable shipment of resources," EA says. "Now they must bring the shipment to their transport ship before time runs out. The Empire has arrived to stop them from reaching the extraction point."
The Outer Rim is included in Battlefront's $50 season pass, which covers all four expansion packs.
Following the Outer Rim is Bespin, which is set for release this summer. That'll be followed by the Death Star DLC this fall, and then will come the final expansion, of which nothing is known beyond its launch window.
If none of those expansion packs fail to turn around a game that many felt to be disappointing, to some degree or another, this won't be the last Battlefront game from Dice. Before the launch of Battlefront last fall, EA Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen reminded gamers that EA's "Star Wars" deal with Disney is a decade long.
"Our goal is to make future Battlefront games as well as other style games around the 'Star Wars' franchise, both on mobile as well as console and PC," Jorgensen said. "It's a huge opportunity for us."
