DC Comics bends reality with a newly released three-track album from the fictional rock band Black Canary – named after the superhero who also fronts it.
The "EP 1" album contains three tracks, one of which is a cover of “The Man With The X-Ray Eye” by Bauhaus from their 1981 album.
Although the band's tour is keeping Black Canary away from her Justice League duties, she's still managing to fight off some nefarious villains while on the road. The music and the band's tour are even being promoted on a DC micro site.
But be warned! Fans are recommended to be trained in self-defense before venturing to any of these gigs – just in case.
March 2 – Burnside, Gotham – Sound Central
March 9 – Metropolis – Radio Theatre
March 11 – Detroit – The Wizard’s Wand
March 14 – Central City – Subculture
March 15 – Keystone City – Locks & Rocks
March 18 – Fairfield – The Liquid Room
March 23 – Happy Harbor – Music Hall
March 25 – New Carthage – Club Cubic
Of course, the locations of the band's tour are all fictional cities from the DC Universe, and since the band is also obviously fictional, real-world musicians who are close to the comic book stepped in to provide the music for the album.
Brenden Fletcher, writer of "Black Canary," is behind the album. Michelle Bensimon, lead vocalist and guitarist of the band Caveboy, co-wrote two of the songs on the album along with Joseph Donovan – both of whom perform on "EP 1."
Fictional band blurbs on the DC micro site describe the band as a kick-ass four-piece fresh out of Gotham's Birnside suburb, who's newest song, “Kicking and Screaming” is a critically acclaimed hit. The site also says their music is “a blend of electronic beats and killer riffs.” Check out the entire album right here:
Members of the Black Canary band include Black Canary herself, who goes by the initials D.D. when performing, Lord Byron, Paloma and Ditto.
