Good news for fans of Huawei smartphones as new images for the impending successor of the Huawei P8 - dubbed the Huawei P9 - has leaked online, giving a closer look at the upcoming handset.
The China-based smartphone maker is anticipated to release the flagship Huawei P9 - codenamed Eva - in the first half of 2016. Now VentureBeat has managed to lay its hands on photos that show off the Huawei P9's body, as well as the rear dual-camera. The close-up shots give a detailed look into the upcoming device.
The publication's noted leakster Evan Blass was able to get access to the "premiere" photos thanks to an anonymous person who managed to get access to the Huawei P9.
"The individual, who requested anonymity, also shared full specs of the 5.2-inch, full HD handset, which is one of at least four variants reportedly being developed by the rapidly expanding Chinese manufacturer," reported the site.
The Huawei P9 will be the fifth smartphone in the company's P-series. The smartphone is anticipated to come in four variants - as previously reported by Tech Times - which are basically the standard 5.2-inch model, the budget- friendly version (P9 Lite), the beefed up feature-rich variant and the bigger screen model (P9 Max or P9 Plus).
Rumors hint at a HiSilicon Kirin 950 octa-core processor for the handset and Mali-T880 GPU. The handset will also allegedly boast 3 GB of RAM. The 5.2-inch model of the Huawei P9 is anticipated to tout 1080p resolution and will have a powerful 3,900 mAh battery.
The Huawei P9 - as reflected by the live images - will have a USB Type-C port to aid charging, as well as data transfer. One can also espy a speaker grille on the device's underside, as well as a headphone jack.
The storage, as revealed by the anonymous source, will be 32 GB and a possibility exists that the premium models of the Huawei P9 may have 64 GB or 128 GB. The premium variant of the smartphone could possibly boast a new Kirin 955 chipset and 4 GB of RAM.
According to VentureBeat, the smartphone will boast two 12-megapixel sensors that have Leica-made lenses, which brings better focus. How well the dual-camera of the Huawei P9 in practice remains to be seen.
The images hint that the cameras could have a laser-focus sensor underneath the flash, and a camera setup on the side to help refocus once the shot has been taken.
The four images shared by the publication also point to a metal body for the Huawei P9 and a fingerprint scanner on the rear. Interestingly, the bottom of the smartphone has a pretty thick bezel.
Previous rumors have hinted that the Huawei P9 will be launched in March, but we will have to wait and watch.
