New renderings of Apple spaceship campus released

More renderings of Apple's Campus 2 project, the spaceship-like campus, have been released.

The images give us a glimpse into the surroundings of the main building and were provided by the City of Cupertino. WIRED was the first to lay its hands on them.

"In these images, we see for the first time the space port-like entrance to the development's subterranean parking lot, a cavernous cafeteria that spills into the grassy landscape beyond, and the glass pavilion that will serve as the entrance to Apple's new underground auditorium - a secure lair where press will gather for future product launches. In short, these documents give us the most complete picture of Apple's new home yet, a campus that Steve Jobs himself thought had a shot at being 'the best office building in the world'," WIRED said.

In October, the City of Cupertino had given the go ahead required for Apple to begin work on the colossal Apple Campus 2, which is being built on the site of a former HP campus. Apple has previously shared some renderings of the project over the past few years and built a model of the campus which has a massive ring-shaped building.

Moreover, in the past, Apple's Senior Director of Real Estate and Facilities Dan Whisenhunt too had shared several new renderings and Apple Gazette posted some low resolution screenshots in late October.

The images show that the main building has taken styling tips from Apple retail stores and has light-colored stone lining on the walls, as well as glass railings.

The three-level cafeteria has floor-to-ceiling windows, as well as tables and benches like those used to display products. The outdoor dining are seems to have furniture made of either cedar or redwood.

The visitor center and the underground auditorium can be espied with steel roofs, which seem to float on 360-degree walls that are made of glass. The landscape seems outlined with cherry trees, as well as olive arbors.

Apple Campus 2 will occupy a 176-acre plot in the South Bay city of Cupertino.
