Vine update features expanded editing, video importing tools

Vine is introducing several new tools for easier editing and the capability to upload video to the platform from mobile devices.

The additions will also allow users to edit already existing videos instead of having to shoot videos on the spot within the Vine app.

"In addition to your phone's front- and rear-facing cameras, you now have another source for your Vines: you can import existing videos from your phone," said Vine in a blog post. "From the capture screen, you'll see a new option in the bottom left corner that lets you import a video. You can select one video or mix together several - and yes, slow-motion videos are supported."

The editing features in Vine are getting largely revamped, including tools such as the ability to duplicate and mute clips of video. Vine users will also appreciate the advanced tools that are included, allowing users to use a grid with a level and a "ghost" mode to reference previous shots. Furthermore, users now have a focus lock feature for the front-facing camera, allowing users to take more focused video of themselves. Lastly, a "torch" mode is for when users want to take videos in the dark, and should improve the quality of dark video.

"Whether you've imported a past video or shot a new one within the Vine app, you can edit your Vines faster and with more precision. Simply tap the scissors from the preview screen to edit your Vine and try out new tools such as the duplicate button and mute button," continued the company in its post.

Not only that, but the camera interface will also allow users to watch the last shot they took and then delete it if they want, allowing for a streamlined and easier way to capture the perfect shot.

The new version of Vine will be rolling out to iOS users on Thursday, and should be available to Android users in the near future.

Vine also announced that 100 million people are watching Vine videos every month and that Vine loops are being played over a billion times per day. Essentially, 190 years of Vine videos are being played every single day. Last month, Vine also announced it had hit 40 million registered users.

Vine, which is owned by Twitter, has been adding a number of features that are found in Facebook's Instagram recently. Instagram has long allowed users to use already existing photos and video.
