A Star Wars: Rebels panel was held at New York Comic Con over the weekend and gave some insight into the upcoming animated series.
The biggest news came in revealing The Inquisitor, an all new villain for the Star Wars cannon. Welding a dual-bladed red lightsaber and black armor, he's hired by Darth Vader to hunt down the remaining Jedi Knights. Only one image was provided of the new antagonist who stands in front of four Stormtroopers ready for battle.
Dave Filoni, executive producer for Star Wars: Rebels introduced the first new character via video appearance during the panel.
Taking place roughly 14 years after Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and 4 - 5 years away from Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, Star Wars: Rebels is reportedly set "in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape."
Many of the recognizable designs from the original trilogy including stormtroopers and Tie Fighters will be mainstays in the series along with new vehicles. It also helps that artwork from original Star Wars artist Ralph McQuarrie was used as the show's inspiration.
Last week, Disney XD debuted a 16-second teaser trailer for Star Wars Rebels after official concept art and logo for series premiered at Star Wars Celebration Europe in mid-July.
Set to make an hour-long premiere fall 2014 on the Disney Channel, Star Wars: Rebels will began airing regularly on Disney XD afterwards. According to reports, actors in the process of being cast as lead voice roles are David Oyelowo (The Butler and Lincoln) and Freddie Prinze Jr. (Scooby-Doo and Summer Catch).
