'Devil Daggers' And The Steam Achievement Only One Person Has Unlocked

You've probably never heard of Devil Daggers — the indie first-person shooter was quietly released on Steam last week. It's about as simple a shooter as you can get: all players have to do is survive an endless onslaught of low-res demons, and one hit sends you back to the title screen.

That being said, simple doesn't necessarily mean easy — most players will probably die within the first 30 seconds or so.

The developers over at Sorath know how insanely difficult their game is, too — Devil Daggers only features one Achievement, and the only way to unlock it is to last for more than 500 seconds. It doesn't sound like much, but if you've seen the game in action, you'll know just how ridiculous Devil Daggers can get ... and that's probably why only one person in the entire world has unlocked the Achievement.

Meet DraQu (via Kotaku), YouTuber and apparently godlike gamer: out of everyone who's ever played Devil Daggers, he's the only one to unlock the "Devil Dagger" Achievement.

At first, it doesn't seem like Devil Daggers is going to put up much of a fight. After a few seconds of nothing, a single spawner appears, and a group of extremely weak enemies appears. Sure, it's creepy, but the same enemies appear for the first 35 seconds — how hard could 500 seconds really be?

By the time 60 seconds is up, Devil Daggers is basically a different game. The entire screen is covered in either demons or blood, and DraQu never stops moving ... and it only gets worse and worse as the seconds tick by.

Despite everything on the screen desperately trying to kill him, DraQu actually manages to survive for 500 seconds — and if he hadn't been hit in the back by an enemy, there's a chance he could have gone on longer. It's a shame that such an amazing run was cut short by a cheap shot, but if there's anything we've learned from Dark Souls players, it's that most gamers like these are willing to jump right back into the thick of things.

Considering the game has only been out for a week, there's a good chance that DraQu won't be the only one sporting Devil Daggers' only Achievement for very long — but at the very least, he'll be remembered as the first person to ever unlock it.

If you want to take a shot at unlocking the Achievement, you can find Devil Daggers over on Steam.
