AT&T To Invest $10 Billion To Boost Global Business Solutions Division

In a press release, AT&T revealed its plans to make an investment of almost $10 billion across the year to provide a boost to the carrier's global business solutions division.

The investment, which will be a part of the company's expected $22 billion in overall capital investments for 2016, will be used to expand AT&T's platforms and to create new solutions in more locations.

"Business is moving faster than ever and companies around the world need to be agile to quickly adapt to changing markets," said AT&T Vice Chairman and Business Solutions & International CEO Ralph de la Vega regarding the decision to pursue the multi-billion dollar investment, adding that the client companies of the carrier will be able to make their adjustments in response to changes through the tools being offered by AT&T.

De la Vega also said businesses are required to be flexible so that short-term opportunities can be taken advantage of while long-term strategies are properly implemented. This flexibility is the goal of the near $10 billion in investments that AT&T will be making.

The investments include the integration of over 6,000 kilometers of fiber in Mexico that are supporting the company's wireless operations into the wireline network and the development of these assets through the addition of global network nodes. The investments will also be looking to employ hundreds more sellers to push forward AT&T's business solutions in the country.

Other targets of the investment plan are the expansion of AT&T wireline and wireless networks to more cities globally, the expansion of Internet of Things networks in the United States and Europe and the improvement of the company's security features.

Earlier in the month, AT&T also revealed that it was all set to begin field trials for 5G cellular technology by the end of the year, as the carrier prepares to launch the service to its customers.

The 5G network is able to offer speeds that are up to 100 times faster compared to the current 4G networks, which means that once implemented, users will only need a few seconds to download a whole TV show.

Lab tests will begin in the current half in preparation of the field tests, which will be carried out in certain locations in Austin, Texas.
