If you're dependent on Mailbox to guard your inbox from unwanted messages (i.e. e-mail forwards containing cat photos and unsolicited messages from your ex), you can now keep the purge going even when you transfer to your desktop.
The popular email app has just launched a version for the Mac, giving users the chance to manage their emails across all their devices.
Mailbox, which was acquired by Dropbox in a deal worth $100 million in March of last year, first announced a Mac version last April. The company said that it has been inundated with requests for access since the demo came out.
The company is initially rolling out the Mac version in a public beta. At the start, the beta will only be available to select users. Eventually, Mailbox said that it will allow the number of test users to grow over the coming weeks as it looks towards a public launch for the app.
If you plan on joining the beta program, know that it's a proposition akin to a roll of a dice, at least initially. To apply for the beta roll out, users can simply sign up on the Mailbox website. If you're lucky enough to be selected, you'll receive an email from the company over the coming weeks. The message would contain an attachment that Mailbox calls a "betacoin." According to Mailbox, each beta coin unlocks a copy of the Mailbox for Mac app.
The biggest addition to the Mac version of the app is the ability to create drafts. "Support for drafts is one of the most common feature requests for Mailbox and becomes even more important when managing an inbox across multiple devices... Drafts are saved locally to the device you're on and automatically synced across devices when you're signed in with your Dropbox," the company said in a blog post.
The support for drafts is not exclusive to Mailbox for Mac. The company said that the feature will also be launched on desktop and iOS, with an Android release soon after. Aside from drafts support, the new Mac version also has a new "snooze to desktop" feature that lets users hide messages until a specified time.
