If there ever was a sure thing in Hollywood, it most definitely is a film slapped with the "Marvel" label. After the monstrous success of B-listers "Guardians of the Galaxy," the industry made a seismic shift realizing that even the not-so-well-known comic properties could be cash cows.
A sequel for "Guardians" is already in place, and it has the studio brass analyzing just what they can do next with their magic formula that turns zeros into heroes.
Recently, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige sat down with IGN to discuss the future of some of the lesser-known characters in the Marvel canon. Specifically, Captain Marvel and Black Panther were discussed as is the future of its flagship properties like Iron Man and The Avengers.
"They're both characters that we like, that development work has been done, it's continuing to be done on, and certainly it's the question I get asked more than anything else, more than Iron Man 4, more than Avengers 3." Feige said. "That's sort of the first time that's really happened to us, so I think that makes a difference. I think that's something we have to pay attention to... I've always said we have our plan, and it's served us very well, and there hasn't been anything that has managed to deviate or change from that based on an opinion, because opinions online change and they alter, and they are based on limited information they have to what's going on behind the scenes, but in this particular case I think it is a groundswell, and I think it means something substantial."
As of right now, the House of Ideas has 11 films that are slated for release between 2015 and 2019. While some of those slots are taken by confirmed titles, eight of the movies are currently up in the air. With all of the pressure on Marvel to deliver diversity in its movies, Black Panther and Captain Marvel would be perfect for one of the cushy release dates. Only time will tell.
