Thinner And Lighter LG Stylus 2 Set For MWC 2016 Debut: 5.7-Inch Display, Quad-Core Chip, Android Marshmallow

LG has announced the LG Stylus 2 handset, which the company will showcase at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona starting Feb. 22.

In mid-January, the Korean smartphone maker started sending media invitations for Feb. 21, a day before the MWC kicks off. LG has not yet confirmed the devices it plans to unveil at the event but speculations were high that the company will announce the hotly anticipated LG G5.

On Tuesday, however, the company has confirmed that it will showcase the Stylus 2 at the event, which means that LG G5 will share the stage with other smarthphones as well.

"LG Stylus 2 provides both the big screen and premium notetaking functions of a premium large phone at a price of a mid-tier phone," says Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. "This device is another example of our commitment to the mass-tier segment where there is so much opportunity for growth and creativity."

The LG Stylus 2 will succeed the LG G Stylo, also known as the LG G4 Stylus. The new LG offering sports a 5.7-inch HD screen with a display resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels, which is the same as that found on the LG G Stylo. A 1.2 GHz quad-core processor and 1.5 GB of RAM fuels the new LG handset. It will come with 16 GB onboard storage but customers will be able to expand the storage capacity with a microSD card.

For long-lasting usage, the LG Stylus 2 mobile phone has 3,000 mAh battery, which will power the 13-megapixel primary camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. For connectivity, the phone supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 and USB 2.0. It will come running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow straight out of the box.

What interesting is that it's thinner and lighter than its predecessor. It weighs only 145 grams, or 5.11 ounces, and measures 6.10 x 3.13 x 0.29 inches, or 155 x 79.6 x 7.4 mm.

The LG Stylus 2 is one of the limited smartphones that comes along with a stylus, as its name suggests, which has a nano-coated tip for more accuracy. LG has introduced a number of proprietary functions for the LG phone for enhancing user experience while using the stylus.

A shortcut menu pops up on the screen when the user takes out the stylus. The Pen Keeper function shows a message when the phone is being moved without the pen in the stylus bay.

There is also a new Calligraphy Pen font, which allows users to write as beautifully and decoratively without the need of learning calligraphy.

Customers will be able to buy the handset in three hues: Titan, White and Brown. It is expected that LG will confirm the price and the region availability of the Stylus 2 at the MWC.
