For many, Dark Souls isn't so much a game that you play - it's more like a game that you fight. Every bit of progress is a battle unto itself and, for many, just making it past the first few bosses is a major triumph.
Then, on the other end of the spectrum, you have people beating the entire game without taking a single bit of damage. No, seriously: a Twitch streamer by the name of The_Happy_Hobbit has made it through all of Dark Souls without getting hit by an enemy once.
At first, it simply doesn't sound possible - in fact, it sounds exactly like the sort of thing that someone on the Internet would make up - but not only did Hobbit beat Dark Souls without taking damage, he did it live and in front of an audience. And, as if all that weren't unbelievable already, Hobbit also managed to take down the final boss of the game in just three hits (skip to 4:57:00 to see the fight).
It's safe to assume that, while developing the game, no one at From Software ever thought something like this could happen.
While it's definitely quite a bit longer than most other Internet videos out there, Hobbit's run is definitely worth watching. Even if you only skip around through pieces of the recording, it's easy to see that Hobbit is one of the most skilled Souls players ever: just getting through the game takes an intimate knowledge of the level design and mechanics, much less beating it without taking damage.
To be fair, it's not as if Hobbit made it through on his first try: the above recording is Chapter 300. If anything, it proves just how determined Hobbit was to beat this challenge....
So, what's next for Hobbit? More Dark Souls, of course! After completing his no-hit run, Hobbit immediately dove back into the game - and, while he didn't make it quite as far during his subsequent run, it looks like he won't be abandoning his quest for the perfect no-damage run anytime soon.
