A New 'Dead Island' Has Been Leaked Via The Australian Ratings Board, But What Is It?

The Dead Island franchise started off with a bang, but since then, it has only gone downhill. After a successful first game and fast-tracked sort-of-sequel Dead Island: Riptide, work began on Dead Island 2.

More than three years later and after having changed developers multiple times, the ultimate fate of Dead Island 2 still remains uncertain. However, it looks like gamers will soon get their hands on a new Dead Island game after all, though at this point, there is no telling what it is actually about.

As revealed by the Australian Ratings Board, a new game in the series titled Dead Island Retro Revenge is on the way. It received an M rating from the classification board for bloody violence and online interactivity, but outside of the fact that the title is being developed by Empty Clip Studios, we know next to nothing about it.

This won't be the first Dead Island spinoff by any means. The poorly-received Escape Dead Island (it has an average score of 32 out of 100 on Metacritic) released in 2014 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and last year, the Dead Island MOBA was canned before it could leave open beta.

Judging from the name of this yet-to-be-officially-announced Dead Island alone, we can only assume it will be far different from the zombie-slaying RPG fans of the franchise fell in love with in the original. The online interactivity listed in the game's rating means we can expect some form of multiplayer, but whether or not it is co-operative or a new form of zombie deathmatch remains to be seen. Publisher Deep Silver so far hasn't commented on the leak, but we'll keep you posted with new information as it becomes available.
