It's tough to find games worth playing during the cold winter months. Once the madcap holiday rush slows down, gamers are basically left high-and-dry until the next batch of major releases hits store shelves — and that usually doesn't happen until April.
So far, 2016 has been great for independent games ... but if you're looking for a triple-A title, you're basically out of luck.
While it's not exactly a set of new releases, Square Enix is offering up the next best thing: discounts!
As part of its one-year anniversary, the North American Square Enix online store is offering up discounts on just about every major game the publisher has ever released — and it's not just for PC titles, either. Everything, from the Xbox One to the PlayStation Vita to the Nintendo 3DS, has something on sale.
To be fair, it's not as if every game that's been discounted is worth buying ... but it's hard to argue when there's such a ridiculously huge selection from which to choose.
If you've been looking for one of Square Enix's classic titles, this is one of the best ways to find them: games that usually ask for a ridiculous amount on sites like eBay are only a few dollars. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and Chrono Trigger DS are just two examples — expect to find quite a few games that are cheaper on the Square Enix store than anywhere else online.
It's not just older games that have been discounted, however: recent releases like Just Cause 3 and Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward are also on sale. Of course, the discounts aren't quite as hefty as the older games, but you'd still be hard-pressed to find a better deal than these.
Of course, all good things must come to an end: Square Enix's One-Year Anniversary Sale only lasts until Feb. 21, so make sure to get your orders in!
