As the summer winds down, you're probably getting psyched for what Fall has to bring. Foliage turning beautiful shades of red and orange. Updating your wardrobe with the latest fall fashions. Checking out all the new TV show premieres. And of course, sipping a Pumpkin Spice Latte at your local Starbucks. Well it looks like you won't have to wait until Fall to do that last one.
Some customers can get their hands on a Pumpkin Spice Latte beginning Aug. 26, Starbucks Spokeswoman Megan Adams told CNBC. The drink will officially launch nationwide on Sept. 2, which is the same date it launched last year.
The official Twitter account for the Pumpkin Spice Latte announced that it would reveal details on Aug. 25 about how to get everyone's favorite Starbucks seasonal drink early this year. Yes, this is actually a thing, and it has nearly 25,000 followers at the time of this writing.
A tweet from the account on Aug. 7 had some speculating that the drink would be arriving in stores on Aug. 25, almost a month before the official start date of Fall. "18 days until I'm back from vacay. Get ready to 'fall' in love all over again," the tweet said.
However, the Twitter account later clarified that information about how to get the drink early would become available on Aug. 25. Adams told CNBC that there will be an online scavenger hunt connected with @TheRealPSL. The Twitter account mentioned some sort of game called "Spot the Spice" will kick off next week, although no other details were released. We're imagining something like that recent @HiddenCash frenzy where the Twitter account tweeted out locations of bundles of money. Perhaps Starbucks will do the same and tweet out clues to where you can find delicious Pumpkin Spice Lattes just waiting for you to devour them? We can't think of anything better.
Starbucks has sold more than 200 million Pumpkin Spice Lattes since the coffee chain introduced the drink in 2003. More than 29,000 tweets have included the hashtag #pumpkinspice since August 2012, according to the Pumpkin Spice Latte's page on Starbucks' website. Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz said the Pumpkin Spice Latte was still its most popular seasonal beverage during a conference call last year.
CNBC reports that customers gained early access to the drink last year through Starbucks' rewards program, and in previous years, some cities won the drink early after they got enough votes for the it to come to their cities ahead of the official launch.
Whenever the Pumpkin Spice Latte decides to return to our lives this year, we'll be ready.
