Instead of coming out to announce that a new "Silent Hill" game has been scheduled to be released, Guillermo del Toro, one of horror films' talented directors, and Hideo Kojima, the creator of Metal Gear Solid, released a free demo for PlayStation 4 owners. Dubbed as a P.T. (playable teaser), the new demo is claimed to have been released by 7780s Studio, which later on was confirmed to be non-existent. It was only when the players have finished the game that they realize that it's about Silent Hills, an upcoming horror game that will feature Norman Reedus from The Walking Dead.
The demo game, played in the first-person POV, begins in an empty, stone room. As the player starts to walk, he notices that there's only one door where he can go through. When he opens the door, he would see an L-shaped hallway of a suburban home. The place is filled with framed photographs on the walls, cigarette butts, chocolate wrappers, and vintage college pictures placed on top of a filthy sideboard. A crackling sound from a radio can be heard from a distance. The voice was talking about the murder of a young family by a lunatic father. Finally reaching the front door, the player finds a swinging metal light fitting that gives out a spine-tingling creak. The light casts black shadows with long fingers which appeared like dancing spiders.
To the player's dismay, he finds out that the front door is locked. The only route left is going down the cellar steps which is revealed by a door that swings open by itself. The player descends the wooden staircase, opens the cellar door, and finds himself back at the hallway where he started. He noticed something different. He sees cockroaches all over the walls. There's a new door that has opened a crack. Chilling sounds can be heard all over the place such as the hammering sound of the rain on the windows and the squeal of a newborn child. Even the light gave out a creaking sound.
The interesting thing about P.T. is that players can learn a lot about what to expect from Silent Hills without even the demo saying anything about the game at all. While it is still a long road to go before it's finally released, the P.T absolutely makes the journey to the haunted town almost as interesting as the day when it finally hits the stores.
Silent Hills "will not be out more than likely until 2016," said Kojima. The reason is because the game is still in the early development stage. Kojima wanted to really scare people with the game and believed that a first person view is more scary and unpredictable.
