Chevrolet is turning heads with the new Camaro as it has announced that the 1LE performance package is returning for the 2017 edition of the iconic vehicle.
In addition to its return, which will be at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show, the 1LE package will be an option for both V-6 and V-8 models, a change from the previous availability of the performance package as it was only an option for V-8 models.
The 1LE package for Camaro 1LT and 2LT models with the 3.6-liter V6 engine will add more aggressive suspension tuning, Brembo brakes and Goodyear Eagle F1 tires to the vehicle. In addition, Recaro seats and a Performance Data Recorder are available as add-ons to customers.
With the 1LE package applied to the V-6 models, Camaro chief engineer Al Oppenheiser said that during testing, the lap times produced by the vehicles were actually comparable to that of the outgoing V-8 model of the Camaro.
For Camaro 1SS models, the 1LE package will add magnetic ride control, FE4 suspension tuning and an electronic limited slip differential that is exclusive for the segment. The package will also include Goodyear Eagle F1 tire sand Recaro seat, with an option for a Performance Data Recorder.
"This is all grip and handling and cooling," said Camaro marketing manager Todd Christensen regarding the performance package, which apply better aerodynamics and better cooling for the vehicle in the quest to make faster lap times.
According to the car company, the 1LE packages will be available late in the year for the 2017 Camaro SS and the LT V-6 manual transmission coupes.
Camaros with the 1LE package will be visually distinguishable through a satin black hood, a custom front splitter and a three-piece rear spoiler. Inside the vehicle, the steering wheel is covered in suede, with a short-throw shifter.
Chevrolet unveiled the 2016 Camaro SS in September 2015, with the vehicle boasting the capability of going from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 4.0 seconds for the eight-speed automatic transmission.
With the return of the 1LE package, the 2017 Camaro SS will undoubtedly prove to be even more of a powerful vehicle, perfect for speed enthusiasts that are always pushing for faster lap times in their favorite tracks.
