A new variant of the upcoming Microsoft Lumia 650 dropped by the FCC, suggesting that it may soon make its formal debut.
The Lumia 650 is widely expected to arrive as an entry-level Windows 10 smartphone catering to the budget segment of the market. The handset passed through the FCC back in January with model number RM-1152, and documentation at the time revealed that it was a single-SIM model.
The new version now spotted at the FCC carries model number RM-1154, and is suspected to be the dual-SIM variant of the Lumia 650.
When it comes to specifications, the Lumia 650 is not expected to have any standout hardware or exceptional performance. Coming in at the budget, entry-level segment of the market, the handset should focus on delivering a decent performance with affordability in mind.
The Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL already cater to the high-end segment of the smartphone market, offering a number of top-notch specs and features to take full advantage of Windows 10 Mobile. However, Microsoft's budget offerings have always been more popular, and the company may be trying to replicate the great success of the low-cost Lumia 520.
Based on information that surfaced so far, the upcoming Lumia 650 should feature a modest 5-inch 720p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 (MSM8909) or Snapdragon 212 (MSM8909v2) processor, 1 GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel selfie cam, and a 2,000 mAh battery. The handset should further pack 8 GB of expandable storage and feature Glance Screen support, but it will likely not have a dedicated camera button.
In terms of design, the Lumia 650 may look more premium than it really is. Not too long ago, some live photos leaked online revealing a premium metal design to complement the otherwise unimpressive specifications. A more recent press render also seemed to confirm the metallic design of the handset.
Despite various leaks, rumors and reports, however, it's worth pointing out that Microsoft has yet to formally introduce its upcoming Lumia 650. This means that all available information is still in the rumor state for now, so it should be treated accordingly.
The Windows 10-powered Lumia 650 is expected to make its debut on Feb. 15, which means that we should get the official scoop straight from the source soon enough. In the meantime, take all leaks with a grain of salt.
