Sprint has leaked that it will offer the HTC One E8 in the near future. The HTC One E8 is essentially a more affordable flagship HTC One M8 wrapped in a plastic case.
When HTC unveiled the HTC One at Mobile World Congress in 2013, the smartphone would kick-start HTC's return to being a formidable player once again in the smartphone world. The key to the handset's success was its premium aluminum unibody case and impressive specs.
When it came time for HTC to release the HTC One's successor, the HTC One M8, the company used the same philosophy of focusing on design and high-end specs. The HTC One M8 retained the HTC One's aluminum unibody case but this time around, it offered it with a brushed aluminum finish and it increased the size of the handset's 1080p display to 5-inches. HTC also improved upon its BoomSound dual-front facing stereo speakers, which HTC says are about 25 percent louder than the HTC One. We had the opportunity to review the HTC One M8 in April and came away feeling that it was the best smartphone currently on the market.
The HTC One M8 helped HTC record a profit in the April through June period of this year. Soon, news began to leak that HTC was planning on releasing a less expensive version of the HTC One M8 that would swap out its aluminum case for plastic.
HTC officially announced the HTC One E8 in June and the smartphone uses virtually the same high-end specs and features of its more expensive aluminum-clad sibling. Sprint customers will soon be able to get their hands on the smartphone, now that the carrier accidentally leaked the handset on the company's official YouTube channel before removing it.
Android Police posted the video and a screenshot of the Sprint HTC One E8. The Sprint HTC One E8 will feature a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD Super LCD3 display with a pixel density of 441 pixels per inch (ppi). It will be powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and 2 GB of RAM. It will likely ship with Android 4.4.2 KitKat and HTC Sense 6.0.
The HTC One E8's camera capabilities consist of a 13-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat and selfies. It will also include 16GB of internal storage and a microSD expansion slot that will support up to 128GB microSD cards, in addition to a large 2,600 mAh battery.
There's no word on when Sprint will make the HTC One E8 official, but considering it already has a YouTube video for the device, it shouldn't be too far off.
