Your wallet is likely just recovering from the Steam Winter Sale that ended in early January, but Valve is back with yet another huge price-slashing event.
Steam's latest sale is in celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year, and it features thousands of games on sale. Today, the spotlight is on the Fallout, Tomb Raider and XCOM franchises, as well as the popular indie titles Don't Starve and Rust.
However, it's not the sales that are the most interesting piece of the Lunar New Year event. Every time a sale rolls around, Valve is always trying out different methods to get customers engaged.
Whether it's voting on what game goes on sale next or clicking through a queue of recommended games in order to earn Steam trading cards, Valve wants customers to see the huge variety of titles available on the Steam marketplace.
Valve's latest scheme to make that happen is an old-fashioned choose your own adventure game, but with a twist. Scroll down the page past the sale banner and you'll see this:
Now, you have a choice to make. Depending on what you choose, Valve will then bring up a list of games fitting in with your selection. If you select to drive around the body of water, for instance, you'll see a list of racing games. Choose to swim, and Valve will highlight the store's aquatic games for your browsing pleasure. Scroll down to the bottom of the list of games and you'll find the next question to send you on your way.
It's a cool feature and yet another clever way for Valve to get more eyes on more games. The sale will be ongoing until Feb. 12, so players will have a full week of choices to make. In other Steam news, the digital store recently added a huge number of anime films to the digital store's growing video section. You can read more about that here.
