It's almost time to see how well Taylor Swift can handle acting in a drama when the sci-fi film "The Giver" opens Aug. 15. However, we always like it best when Swift makes us laugh.
Swift was a guest on the Aug. 13 episode of "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," and she had a bit of fun with Fallon. Swift pulled her bangs back, put on some braces and glasses, and starred as a meek teen on a new installment of "Ew!," the talk show hosted by the pre-pubescent and almost unintelligible Sara, terrifyingly played by Fallon.
In this episode of "Ew!" Swift plays Natalie, the daughter of Sara's mom's best friend. Natalie's hobbies are eating apricots and collecting Band-Aids, which is what every 13-year-old girl likes to do, right? She also enjoys drawing "pegacorns," a magical cross-between a pegasus and a unicorn, and she has a tendency to sneeze. Unfortunately, she's never seen Sara's favorite show "Pretty Little Liars" because her mom hasn't allowed her to watch TV since Miley Cyrus' infamous twerk-filled performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. It was probably for the best anyway.
But these two don't just talk for the entire segment. Oh no. They dance to "Come and Get It" by Selena Gomez, who is actually a very good friend of Swift's. In the end, Sara and Natalie go through the Speed Round where they decide what's "ew" and what's not from a variety of topics. Basically, Natalie says everything is "ew," except for Sean Connery, who she says is "cute." She even thinks "getting back together" is "ew," and in response to Sara's questioning that she would "Never?" get back together, Natalie responds, "Never, ever, ever, ever." Hmm. Have we heard that somewhere else before?
Not only was Swift's appearance on "The Tonight Show" memorable for this sketch, but she also announced some major news. Swift will perform at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards airing Sunday, Aug. 24.
"We had such a good time, and we wore braces together. I felt like it was a bonding experience, so I will tell you that I'm going to perform at the VMAs," Swift told Fallon.
Swift wouldn't reveal anything more about what the performance will entail other than that she's still in the planning process. She also wouldn't spill any details on her Yahoo Livestream on Aug. 18, although there are rumors that she could be announcing a new album.
"There could be one announcement, or there could be multiple announcements," Swift said.
