The King of Pop continues to make history, as his new single was the first music video to debut on Twitter.
The music video for Michael Jackson's "A Place With No Name" was released on Wednesday, at 10 p.m., EST by Jackson's reps via his Twitter account.
The video features never-before-released footage of the late icon candidly smiling for the camera and dancing in a white T-shirt. The footage contains outtakes from Jackson's "In the Closet" video that was released in 1992 that has been kept in the vault. The video is directed by Samuel Bayer, known for videos like Justin Timberlake's "What goes Around...Comes Around."
"I walked down towards the end of the road, and in the fog a woman appeared/So he said don't you worry my friend I'll take care, take my hand, I'll take you there," Jackson sings.
The new single comes from the late icon's posthumous album "XSCAPE," that was released this year. The new song was originally recorded in 1998, and features a sample from "A Horse with No Name" by the band America that was a hit in 1971.
The video was re-tweeted more than 42,000 times.
The Jackson Estate and Epic Records announced on Monday that the new video would premiere in a unique way. As well as being the first video to premier on Twitter, Jackson's new single was shown on the Song screen in Times Square, New York at 10 p.m., EST.
On Tuesday, a preview of the video was aired on a Michael Jackson-themed episode on FOX's "So You Think You Can Dance."
The album "XSCAPE" features material the King of Pop was working on before his death in June of 2009 and was finished by top pop producers Timbaland and Stargate. Jackson's record debuted at number two on U.S. charts, with the lead single "Love Never Felt So Good," a collaboration with Justin Timberlake, making it his first top ten hit in the U.S. since 2001.
