Two Fantasy Novels Win The First People's Choice Awards For Books

For the first time in 40 years, the annual People's Choice Awards added new book categories to its list of accolades. The nominations were selected with the help of The Reading Room for voters to decide the best reads of 2015.

Although there was one category specifically for Favorite Fantasy novel, which went to Sabaa Tahir's "An Ember in the Ashes," another fantasy themed novel also snagged the award for Favorite Young Adult novel: "The Red Queen" by Victoria Aveyard.

Although the People's Choice Awards is more known for presenting the year's favorites from the world of music, television, and film, the addition of book categories to the awards, which is decided upon by public voting, is a welcome change.

The People's Choice Awards teamed up with The Reading Room to select the novels nominated which included some of the best and even controversial books published in 2015 such as Harper Lee's post-humous "Go Set A Watchman."

The winners were selected via online voting on TheReadingRoom.com, which ended on Jan. 28.

Notably, there was no category for Favorite Science Fiction novel, however bibliophiles are hopeful that this could be a category that could be added at next year's People's Choice Awards.
