Getting a brand new iPhone in exchange of a damaged unit might soon become history as Apple stores will soon begin hardware repairs and parts replacements of iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c.
9to5Mac reported that Apple will soon start repairing minor hardware problems for iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c at their chain of retail stores. This includes display replacements, as well as several other parts.
Apple will be providing its stores a special machinery that will easily replace the touch screens on the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c. The machineries will have dedicated functionality to only calibrate the displays.
If reports are to be believed, the screen replacement will cost $149 for each device. This price point is obviously more affordable for the company than replacing the entire unit of the phone.
The replacement will not be limited to just displays but will extend to several other parts of the phone. This includes volume buttons, vibrating motor, speaker system, and rear camera. The store will also be able to replace the iconic Home button on the iPhone 5c but for iPhone 5s they are yet to find a feasible solution as it features TouchID fingerprint scanner technology.
If the iPhone is under an AppleCare warranty, the replacement will be free of cost. However a minimal cost will have to be paid by customer if the unit is not under warranty. The pricing for iPhone 5c Home button is going to cost $29 and battery replacement will cost $79.
Typically, the screen replacements inside Apple Stores take 30 to 60 minutes. The amount of time is far less than it takes right now to get a brand-new replacement iPhone, if one is to include the time taken to backup and transfer contents.
Earlier this year, Apple began the rollout of the in-store display replacements as well as repairs for iPhone 5. The new initiative not only will save the company's time but also cut cost on a large extent.
