A pair of new videos and an official tweet by Nintendo revealed when the final two characters to complete the Super Smash Bros. roster for the Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS will be released.
Nintendo held a special Direct in early December 2015 that was dedicated for the title. Included were the announcement of the final characters for Super Smash Bros., namely Bayonetta from the game that bears her name and Corrin, from the upcoming Fire Emblem Fates.
However, Nintendo did not disclose when exactly the characters are coming to the game, instead stating a vague launch window of February this year.
Over the weekend though, two videos surfaced on the European Nintendo account on YouTube that showed off both of the new characters in action, including the new stage from Bayonetta, namely the Umbra Clock Tower. The videos end with a statement that the characters will be released on Feb. 4, but that date was said to be for Europe only.
Nintendo of America soon after sent out a tweet to confirm that Bayonetta and Corrin will be released in the region this week. In fact, the release is actually a day earlier.
Bayonetta can be purchased along with the Umbra Clock Tower Stage with a price tag of $5.99 for the Nintendo 3DS or the Nintendo Wii U, or for $6.99 if being purchased for both platforms. Corrin, on the other hand, can be purchased with a price tag of $4.99 for the Nintendo 3DS or the Nintendo Wii U, and only $5.99 for both platforms.
Bayonetta appears to be a close-range fighter with a bit of mid-range ability due to her summons. She also has the ability to launch time-slowing fields that trap enemies for easy pummeling. Corrin, on the other hand, has a weapon and outfit that can change, which would make the character very versatile.
The Super Smash Bros. franchise has been one of the most popular ones for Nintendo, with a dedicated audience that has been following it since the first game debuted for the Nintendo 64 back in 1999. As such, a rumor that the game will be a launch title for the upcoming Nintendo NX gaming console is plausible, given the franchise's immense reach and popularity.
