Motorola 'Shamu' Nexus 6 specs revealed: 5.2-inch QHD display, Snapdragon 805 processor, and Android L

The Nexus 6, which has been codenamed 'Shamu' by Motorola, has made an appearance on GFXBench, the cross-platform graphics benchmark.

The smartphone is reportedly running Android L, 5.2-inch QHD display, and Snapdragon 805 processor.

Android fans have been waiting for Google to release two specific devices that are due for an update. The Nexus 7 (2013) is beginning to show its age and is expected to soon be replaced by an 8.9-inch HTC-made Nexus 8 that's running Android L, packing a 64-bit processor, 4 GB of RAM, and a brushed aluminum case. The Nexus 8 will reportedly ship sometime in the fall and be among the first devices to ship with Google's all-new Android L mobile OS.

The second device Nexus fans are anticipating is the Nexus 6 smartphone. Google has reportedly ditched LG, who made both the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5, for the company it recently sold, Motorola.

A report came out in late July that Google and Motorola were working on the Nexus 6, which has been code-named 'Shamu.' The report claimed the smartphone would be a phablet with a large 5.9-inch display and would be the launch vehicle for Android L.

A new report is claiming that the Motorola 'Shamu' Nexus 6 will now feature a smaller quad-HD display. The smartphone made an appearance on GFXBench and revealed its specs in the process. The handset is listed as "Motorola Shamu Google Nexus 6" and has a 5.2-inch QHD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 and is running the upcoming Android L OS. The handset will be powered by a 2.6 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, Qualcomm Adreno 420 GPU (graphics processing unit), and has a healthy 3 GB of RAM.

The Motorola Shamu / Nexus 6 will ship with a 12-megapixel rear camera that will be capable of recording 4K UHD video and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The smartphone is listed as having 24 GB of internal storage; this is likely the 32-GB model with available memory shown.

As always, it's best to take reports of unannounced devices with a huge grain of salt. We'll definitely keep you posted on any new Nexus 6 news as it happens.
