Are you ready to quest through the world of Hyrule as a woman?
New concept art from the Hyrule Warriors could indicated a female Link is coming to The Legend of Zelda series.
The art book for massive action game Hyrule Warriors shows art of a woman with Link's elfin features and famous green outfit.
This concept art could indicate that a new character similar to Link is in the upcoming game. Or it could mean there will be an option to customize Link for the game by switching his gender. There are fans that are hoping that this concept art means that Nintendo's designers are considering letting players control a female Link.
The teaser of the upcoming The Legend of Zelda for Wii U was released in June, as part of Nintendo's digital event for the E3 video game conference. When the latest version of Link is shown he is quite thin, in both the face and the body, like a young teen. This is a new design for the series' protagonist. Some have even said that this androgynous design could actually be a young woman.
Another fact unveiled in the teaser is that for the first time, The Legend of Zelda series will be an open-world game with no boundaries. The variety of open-world RPGs for computers and consoles are built around a sense of freedom, and with that: customization. And while it unlikely a new Zelda game would allow you to choose your character's race or class, like other open-world RPGs, it might let you choose the gender of your hero.
Hyrule Warriors is an action game being made by a partnership between Nintendo and Koei. It is in the vein of Koei's Dynasty Warriors series, where players control one warrior fighting an army of hundreds of enemies, but set in the world of Hyrule from The Legend of Zelda series.
The Legend of Zelda is an adventure franchise from Nintendo, from legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, with the first game being released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986.
