After Apple announced the Sept. 9 launch date of the iPhone 6, sources say the company has also begun production on two new iPads to be released this fall.
The new iPad will have a 9.7-inch screen, and will hit shelves just in time for the holiday season. The release of a new mini iPad, with a 7.9-inch screen, is expected at the end of the year.
It is predicted that Apple will reveal the products at the end of this quarter or the beginning of next.
Apple has an "incredible pipeline," CEO Tim Cook said last month. "We can't wait to show you."
There is little known about the new iPads, but it is predicted that the larger screen tablet will be an update on the iPad Air. It will feature "anti-reflection coating" that will make it easier to read in the sunlight.
Samsung featured the anti-reflection screens with its new Galaxy Tabs.
The new iPads out this fall are expected to have faster processors. Rumors around the new iPads also say Touch ID fingerprint sensors will be added.
According to sources, the company will unveil the project at the end of this quarter. Apple is attempting to boost tablet sales after a decline in the products' sale for the past two quarters. Apple's iPad sales fell to 13.3 million units last quarter, which ended on June 28.
"The weak spot for Apple has been the tablet market, " analyst Amit Daryanani with RBC Capital Markets said.
In an attempt to strengthen iPad sales, Apple has teamed up with IBM in a partnership that was announced earlier this year. The goal is to get more businesses that commonly use Microsoft to switch over to Apple's iPads. The iPad is Apple's second biggest product after the iPhone.
Apple's Sept. 9 unveiling of two new models of the iPhone will include one with a 4.7-inch screen and the other with 5.5-inch screen.
