The soundtrack to the mobile puzzle video game Monument Valley by is getting a double-LP vinyl release courtesy of iam8bit. Yes, really.
Developed by ustwo, Monument Valley took the public and critics by storm when it released back in 2014. The game went on to win several awards, including some from Apple itself. In the game, players are tasked with navigating Princess Ida through several puzzles based on optical illusions and the like, with folks often comparing the art style to that of an M.C. Escher painting.
The soundtrack to the game features music by Stafford Bawler, Obfusc and Grigori, and the vinyl release from iam8bit splits it into two volumes. It’s also the first time that the music on volume one is available as a physical release, and the first time the music from volume two — which comes from the Forgotten Shores and Ida’s Dream expansions — has been released as a soundtrack.
The iam8bit release also comes with exclusive artwork as well as an eight-page story booklet. What’s in the booklet? Well, folks will just have to preorder the whole thing when it goes up on Jan. 27 at 10 a.m. PST to find out. There’s also a code included in the release for a digital version of the soundtrack, which is a nice touch.
